The Alma Mater-What gave it its soul!

Letter from Pijush Das,
What was in that precious Mater that strikes a resonant cord in every heart! What gave it soul and life and makes everyone of us travel back in time to revist those breathless moments!
For its not the years you live that count but the moments that your breath has been taken away. Those moments in that august Mater were some of our most breathless moments!

Across ages(1966 to 2000 and beyond) people are bonding together connected by that single thread!

Was it the teachers, the students or the parents! For in its fledgling years no one would have given it any chance in presence of the mighty Timpany,St.Aloysius or the two Girls convents!(they were iconic)

Yet it was the parents who gave breath and substance to this great mater.Starting from the Navy Chief(in Vizag) to the Mandarins in BHPV and Railways- they all voted for the Mater. They put in their impressionable but bright kids into the hands of raw but mature Principal- Mr Princeswar Rao(as Revati put it).He was not found wanting.(Princi confided to me the other day that KV Malkapuram holds a special place in his heart because it was the first school he was heading)

Everyone of teachers,Raju(he will forever be my favorite), ASPRO, Someswara Rao, Madhukar, Varadan,
Subramaniam Bhaskar Rao matched the princi in the breadth of their thinking.

There were kids from all walks of life-from all ranks, rich and poor, from all religions but no neither the teacher, nor the kids ever bothered about rank or lucre or religion!.What counted was your own merit-that is all that mattered-either on the sports arena or in the academics or in the cultural arena.Long before anyone heard of the seven intelligences(motor abilty, linguistics etc etc)the school under Princi had already imbibed those distilled knowledge.

So my friends lets hear your own story of what gave this Mater its soul!Rgds
Pijush

Dear Pijush da,
I am really enthused the way you explained the link thread which brought us back in the old memories of our golden school days.Every one started recollecting those ...moments when the railway line piece rung..the bell ..for every period from morning till evening,we all gathered for assembly..thought for the day..news and our princi Mandeswar Rao stood next to the school captain.
Then the CBSE song Daya Karo Daan ..jana gana mana...then back to classes for every period.Really we all enjoyed without even imagining that ,we will be what we are today ..loaded with responsibilities..and with families children getting married ..we have crossed two generations.

I am not a very good writer, but i still remember the unity which we had students, all our teachers used to marvel at the way we all could keep together in everything including getting punished.Let me recollect all the times we did some mischief, we would take the battering together, i joined 104 area at first, i still remember the mango trees there, you senior guys used to tell us to wait near the trees and i remember you seniors used to bagao the watchman till the railways track and we girls used to pluck the mangoes,we used to be punished for the whole day. In malkapuram, Eco used to throw us out of class almost everyday, saying "you rascals stand like sentinals near the door". We would ask our Truck driver to come late to school to be punished. On day we girls got inspired to climb the hill behind our school thinking we were Tenzing the Hillary, Princi saw us and we had to stand in front of his office for the whole day.Another interesting incident was when we went for sports meet in Hyderabad. We stayed in Trimalgerry . PT Sir told us that if we win he will take us for a movie, and guess what after we finished and won all the events he conviently disappeared. We waited and waited he did not come till eleven in the night , all of us sitting waiting for him, finally when he came we made him take us, we walked upto Alval and saw the ending of the movie,Hamraz.
Just can't forget the things we did to trouble our teachers, and poor chikki really used to get confused who was sister and my brother all contributed to puzzling him.
Not to forget our librARY SIR, WE USED MAKE SUCH A LOT OF NOISE, he used forget his English and scream at us, IF YOU SHOUT I WILL STAND UP ON THE BENCH, SO CAN IMAGINE THE HALA WE USED TO MAKE.
The boys were really difficult, i remember once Eco standing on the bench to hit Pradeep Roy as he was very tall he could not reach him.
I remember Ullu Miya was incharge of the garden, and if any cow would come he would say guy aa gaya, and all the boys would jump from the window to chase it out but they would make it run in circles entertaining the whole school.
The greatest quality most of us had was being friendly with all without any kind of status, even today when i see the mails everyone is excited about meeting each other but not bothered what they are.We were just happy being in each others company.
Well no end to all the stories i think i could write a book , on all the things we did.

Pijush,

You have given us something to seiously reflect about..Yes, why are we all so excited and buzzing like bees around this forum that represents our Mater's spirit?? The spirit and soul of KVVM ... embodies the light within us..or should I say torch that lights our way ever single day...may it be team, mangement, or whatever career each one has pursued.. the foundation that we all received was so crucial and also was a springboard for pursuing our other dreams..Every teacher influenced our decision in one way or other ..to be what we are today. Their breadth of knowledge, their understanding, their caring and their humor made us want to be there everyday to receive the gift of education. Each of our friends brought vitality, love and warmth to our existense..and parents of course who entrusted us.. their most precious ones.. to this institution. I still remember some of my friends who went to other schools becoz they didn't think this was good enough and thought we were crazy to have decided on this. Little did they know what they missed. I remember our days in 104 area..under those shady tamarind trees, eating tamarind and drinking water from the hand held pump..and even our chaukidars like Balram and the other bahadur I cant recollect his name..entertaining us with ghost stories and how ghosts visited those tamrind trees at night..even today that send shivers down my spine..spine chilling I ust say..no Steven Sielberg movie can beat that..:)

Wow what memories..what nostalgia as we recollect those years of kaagaz ke kashti oh Barrish ka pani ( Jagjit Singh's soulful melody))...that song pretty much summarizes our good old days..

Tears well up in my eyes now..thinking of those happy carefree years of masti and at the same time not realizing how beautifully each one of us were moulded for the future..not knowing like Prajesh put it..what responsibilities our lives had in store for us..since our school did cater to all the multiple intelligences. .like Pijush said...Kudos our Mater..Your soulful spirit still lives in each one of us..
