My favourite was ASP Rao Sir.
You could be poor in the class, but never had he discouraged you. He always had words of encouragement. I am sure he must have been the favourite of many of his students. He was an inspiration. I wish I get to meet him & thank him.

I am Pijush Das from the 1971 batch.I joined the school in 1967 and started the journey from the 104 area.

The school was a melting pot-with bright young people from the Indian Navy,The Army,Railways, BHPV,NAD, MES jumping into a cauldron that churned out the future leaders!Who could belive that staid old dog van would mould so many young lives! It was a combination of cultures, background s that perhaps cannot ever be replicated. The real education was the interaction with so many bright young people-visionary but rooted in action!
Perhaps the stage was set by the Colossus- that was Mandeswara Rao.He really was some one who you could look upto- aways on with well tailored cllothes. He broke with tradition by discarding the continious rounded handwriting. He said that was old stuff!
Who can forget Raju(Chemistry teacher) with his long pregnant pauses who induced in me a love for Chemistry that was almost passionate.ASPRO( the Romantic) who helped me in my Science Talent Project.Konam Tambigi(Madhukar) who more a philosopher than a teacher. And ofcourse our Library teacher in 104 area who ridiculed our reading habits(Enid Blyton and such stuff0 and put me on to Maugham and Steinbeck and a journey that has taken me on to thousands of books. The journey is I believe never ending!Padi( prasad rao) who cracked more jokes than he taught physics!Mr Krishna Rao and Suleman our Sports teachesr)

I remember Arun Mathur-the first IITian from KV,Shankar Raman-the romantic,Thomas Zachariah-my bridge partner,Ramesh" SHYLOCK the Jew" Patnaik,Savit- and Nalini-the first KVM student to be married and the one with the flightiest heart-Nazumuddin- the handosme one! Many were the nights I spent in perfecting the art of being Shylock.By the way who was Portia-in the play Merchant of Venice-was it Prathibha-wow that was a lady! She was another colossus! She could diminish the opposition by her mere presence! The babyfaced Aditya (Kowshit I mean Kowshik).By the way hes developed into a very manly person!Gopa Ukil the danseuse and John the Phillipose the quiet operator and ofcourse the Vedantic Ananth!

I cannot forget our class of 1971-the child who was a man-Deepak Chakravarthy who changed our thinking on many adult issues,Binoy- the louis who chewed up many Chemistry books,Jose Verghese-the first to leave school for the NDA,,Arun and Sushil Kapila my cricket team mates, the very pretty Saraswathi who had a handsomer father and of course Pushpalatha Narang now Verma-the chirpy one and the utterly quiet Vasantha and Shanti.Arvind Mathur-the rebel!Ramesh Chand Dayal-another quiet one!I hope Saras,Arvind, Vasantha, Binoy,Jose you will post your messages here!Others in my class who left included Ramesh.Badle( the rope trick man),Chandru, Ponnamal, Raghuram( professor in IIM now) and Krithivasan>

Raghavan-one of my best friends,Shika my co-actor friend(we did a Hindi Play) together and ofcourse Liz and Parminder! The Bisoi's(Purna and Suseela) and Shyam Patnaik!(shyam, Parminder, Shikha I hope you will post your messages here)

I cannot forget Rama Nambiar(who alas is no more, she was with me in the SBI too).Between us we won all the debating prizes that were on offer in Vizag-so I thought!
Vishwanath-that warm and smiling young man(he really lit up the school with his smile and warmth) and the man who was called Bull like me-Sridhar Seshadri!Sridhar offcourse was the brightest jewel of the school-he-everyone knew was destined for great things!Prasun who was like my brother and Alok Bhattacharya who is now related to me!Suja again was one you knew who was destined to be a great lady!(Sridhar, Vish,Alok i hope you will post your messages here!)

Everone loved to have Rachel in their house-she was the speedster who could outrun any opposition!Revati- because she was Saras's sister and Offcourse I had 3 little friends who were in the 2nd,3rd and the 4th standards-Bhagyalka shmi,Vijaylakshm i and Rajyalakshmi. (they were sisters)Would anyone know of them.

Hi All,

Having come across this topic and being a KV Teacher myself I kept wondering for a while as to WHY I became one. Was it a mission to inculcate and imbibe goodness and knowledge in the impressionable minds of youngsters because I enjoyed my school days at Malkapuram so much...? a latent hobby...? an inner calling...? Or was it a combination of all the above? I honestly cannot answer.

BUT what I CAN answer, after having come across this debatable topic while being in this enviable position for the last 22 years, is that life is a 2-way street.

Can any of us deny not having learnt some of life's lessons from our teachers? Or a situation where a student was rebuked because he/she did NO WRONG? Likewise,I cannot deny having learnt a few of life's lessons from my students. And this is why I say I'm in an enviable position. It would be too much for me to elaborate here on this topic but suffice it to say that a lot of us have definitely learnt a few lessons of life from our teachers as we looked upon them as icons and trail blazers. Although, I would not be too sure about denying a reversal of roles for those teachers who also learnt something from us and thereon made the best of such learnings for their kids!

But let me say that in today's world of internet exposure, it is the Teacher of yore who has to keep up with the "bright" student (the Joneses... so to say) so as not to cut a sorry figure in class.

Rather, the current scenario is that of the Teacher being the SENIOR and the Student being the JUNIOR in the learning process. Therefore, I can safely conclude that both Teachers have made students and Students have made Teachers.

Maybe we can ask this of some teachers in today's school life and see how honest a reply one gets.
